Last week the US Command in Africa stated that they killed over 100 militants associated with the Al Shabaab armed group in Somalia. Though unclear what kind of weapons have been deployed against the group, past lethal strikes with armed drones in Somalia have raised concern over the expanding US war on terror. Legal experts and EFAD members Drone Wars UK and PAX were quoted in this article by Middle East Monitor and expressed the need for more transparency over the use of lethal force. EFAD members also underscored the urgency for EU States to provide clarity on their position regarding these type of operations outside areas of active hostilities, and on the sharing of information with the US that can be used for lethal force.  Later information provided by the Somali government indicated the attack was at their request, though past raids by Special Forces and US airstrikes have lead to a number civilians casualties, including children.
